Really wonderful British actress Joanna Lumley, known for the television series, recently visited the Talk TV program to discuss gender-neutral award galas. At the moment, for example, the Oscar gala awards the best male and female lead.

In Finland, several galas have already switched to gender-neutral awards. Among other things, the Venla gala, Jussi gala and Emma gala are gender neutral, which means that men and women do not have their own categories.

Lumleyn states in an interview that gender-neutral award galas harm the status of women.

– I know that if my name was placed in the best actor category alongside many men, I would have no chance of winning. But as best actress you have a chance against other women, Lumley criticized.

Lumley says he is very pleased with the awards he has received during his career. At the same time, however, he notes that award galas also create problems for careers.

– I’m not quite sure, the awards are a very great thing. The book and other art awards are really good, but reading about the Oscars and others, I understand that in order to even get nominated, you have to lobby people yourself and promise lunches. Some of the stars are ready for it, he continues.

According to the actor, gender-neutral award categories only exacerbate these problems.

– I think that reducing and neutralizing the categories makes lobbying even stranger, Lumley states.
