Active and SVZ alive and kicking in the title fight, Buinerveen still in the waiting room

FOOTBALL – Active and SVZ are back in the 3rd class B title battle today. Both teams from Drenthe won big, while league-leader GSAVV Forward lost points. Buinerveen has to wait a little longer to celebrate the championship. The team did win, but SVBC from Barger Compascuum didn’t make a mistake.

GSAVV Forward seemed to have the ideal starting position towards the last two games of the season, but the leader of the 3rd division B did not get further than a 1-1 draw at HBS today. With that, the Groningers saw their lead shrink to just one point. Once again Actief from Eelde is the closest attacker. That team won 5-1 against Asser Boys today. Ermin Imelman, Gerwin Koops, Julius van der Hilst (2x) and Mark Brouwer scored the goals.

SVZ also has a chance to win the championship after today. The former leader and winner of the 1st period has slumped a bit in recent weeks, but after a 6-3 win against Muntendam, he has come back to three points. Mark Ybema and Jochem Haverkate signed for the first two hits before Muntendam did something in return.

Tom Westebring managed to take the lead for the team from Zeijen to 3-1. After Muntendam’s connecting goal, Ryan Subaeswaran scored twice in quick succession for the 5-2 lead. Muntendam then scored one more time, but Subaeswaran determined the final score at 6-3 with his third of the day.

The 3rd class B is now entering an exciting final phase. Next week SVZ will play against Forward and a week later the current leader will visit Actief. Then the title battle between the three teams will be decided definitively. Nieuw Roden must seriously fear relegation. The team is 6 points behind Groninger Boys, Siddeburen and HBS. Nieuw Roden would have to win the last two games with big numbers if they still have a chance. Nieuw Roden proved that the team can do it today by outplaying Groninger Boys 6-2.

In the 5th division D, Buinerveen had a match point for the title today, but for that the team was dependent on the result of closest competitor SVBC. Buinerveen narrowly won 0-1 against Weiteveense Boys. Top scorer David Karabed signed for the only goal. However, SBVC also won 1-2 against Valther Boys. The home team did take the lead after half an hour of play, but Stefan Groen and Marijn Roufs still won the match in the second half for the club from Barger Compascuum. This means that the gap between the two Drenthe clubs remains unchanged at three points.

Another striking result in the 5th division D is that of the Witteveense Boys against De Treffer ’16. The home team hit no less than 15 times against the clumsy team from Tweede Exloërmond. Dennis van den Berg became the top scorer of the day with five goals. De Treffer ’16 was allowed to cheer once this afternoon when Melvin Wiering took a ‘honour’ hit.
