Actium makes rental houses more sustainable, including that of Mezach and Fenny Noija in Bovensmilde

The high energy bill cuts into many households. People with poorly insulated homes are particularly affected by this. To reduce those costs, housing association Actium is going to make two thousand rental houses in Drenthe more energy efficient. Also the house of Mezach and Fenny Noija from Bovensmilde.

The couple has been living in a rented house from Actium on Jasmijnstraat for 54 years. Last year, housing association Actium started to renovate the house. “This is all newly paneled with drywall,” Fenny points to the roof in the attic. “Then they injected insulation material. That retains the heat. Fortunately, because otherwise it is very cold here. You feel the difference right away.”

Double glazing, a heat pump and solar panels should also ensure that this house in Bovensmilde becomes more energy efficient. This is urgently needed, because Noija’s energy bill has risen enormously in recent times.

“We pay 300 euros a month since energy prices have risen. At first it was 165 euros,” she says. The woman is therefore very happy with the sustainability measures. “I think that’s very nice, because I have an AOW income and a small pension. I have to give up 300 euros of that, and that takes a toll.”
