Climate activists have been blocking roads for weeks. Now even air was let out of car tires. This causes anger among some Berliners. A comment from BZ editor-in-chief Miriam Krekel.
Berliners have almost gotten used to the fact that they are blocked in the morning by self-proclaimed food rescuers and stand in traffic for hours, sometimes ambulances and finally a heavily pregnant woman stuck in labour.
Granted, it doesn’t lower anger potential. Quite the contrary, the “good cause” is increasingly taking a backseat to all the provocative actions.
It’s sad to see how you can miss your target so much. Just ask one of the Berliners stuck in traffic what they actually want over there…
A new action shouldn’t make the whole thing any better: climate activists let the air out of the tires of SUVs and left behind the windshield wipers instructive messages. The car owners are then insulted as bigwigs, and if they should be angry – well, then they should simply get rid of their cars.
Really now? Do the perpetrators seriously believe that this is how they get people to rethink? You want to shake them and call out to them: Destruction, provocation and insult have never worked in history.
The bad thing about it: Saving the climate is a good thing. Unfortunately, such actions make the topic less and less popular with skeptics. A missed opportunity.
