The number of students has been declining for years, never before have so many independent butchers closed their doors. Young starters are becoming an exception, but there are still some.

Fien and Lukas recently opened a butcher shop in Sint-Henricus near Torhout. And they know well why. “The appreciation you get from the people who buy your daily products. And that you have preparations on the table from a pig in the morning by noon. That is an enormous added value to the profession.”
