The GasGas team in MotoGP will compete next year with Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernandez. The team announced this between the MotoGP events in Motegi (Japan) and Mandalika (Indonesia).
To make room for Pedro Acosta, Pol Espargaro had to take a step back. He is taking on a new role within the team. KTM has thus completed the line-up for the 2024 MotoGP season, as Brad Binder and Jack Miller will also form the KTM factory team next year.
“We had to make an important and difficult decision for our GasGas team for 2024,” comments KTM Motorsport boss Pit Beirer. “Augusto has made impressive first steps in MotoGP and we are convinced that he has the speed and intelligence to develop further.”
Espargaro has to make way for Acosta
With Pedro Acosta, KTM probably has the biggest future talent in its squad. “Pedro is a very special talent who has already won so much and so quickly and 2024 will be about him learning to take the next step with the big boys in MotoGP,” explains Pit Beirer.
To find a place for Pedro Acosta, Pol Espargaro had to sacrifice his place. “I want to thank Pol for everything he has done and will continue to do for us. This guy is super tough and super determined and that’s why we want to count on him as an important part of our structure,” notes Pit Beirer.
“Pol’s openness and proactivity deserve my deepest respect. It underlines his greatness as a person that he helped us in this situation. It also shows his passion for the sport and his thoughts for the future,” praises Pit Beirer.
It is obvious that Pol Espargaro will support the KTM test team in their work in the future. In addition, the Spaniard will certainly compete in one or two Grand Prix with a wildcard.
