AMATEUR FOOTBALL – Wilko Niemer will be the trainer of Achilles 1894 for the rest of the season. The coach is the successor to René Wollerich, who was sent away from the second division team at the beginning of December.
The board of the Asser club says it is ‘content’ with the choice. “This also gives us the opportunity to further roll out the vacancy for the head coach of the first selection for the 2024/2025 season,” the board said.
Achilles is currently eleventh in the second division. Due to the disappointing results, Wollerich had to leave. There was insufficient confidence that Wollerich could turn the tide.
Niemer was without a club after leaving Alcides. He has been the technical manager at the Meppel club for six seasons. Under Niemer, Alcides returned to the premier league in 2018. Last season Alcides was relegated to the first division.
Niemer has announced that his job at Achilles is on an interim basis until the end of the season. He was previously associated with the Assen team as a player for six years.
