Ace Frehley, guitarist and co-founder of the American rock band KISS, has died at the age of 74. Frehley died at home in the company of his family, the family announced Thursday night.

The cause of Frehley’s death has not been released. At the end of September he fell during a recording in the studio. Initially, little seemed to be wrong, but last week he canceled the dates of his solo tour for 2025 for medical reasons, without elaborating.

“The magnitude of his death is enormous and hard to comprehend. As we reflect on all his incredible life achievements, Ace’s memory will live on forever!”, his family wrote on the website. Frehley’s website.

I Was Made for Loving You

In 1973, Frehley co-founded the rock band KISS with Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss. Frehley left the band in 1982, but returned in 1996. In 2002 he left the band permanently. He also had a successful solo career. In 2014 he was included in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

KISS became known for their striking black and white outfits and make-up and their spectacular shows with a fire-breathing singer and an abundance of fireworks. Freyleh played guitar on KISS’s most famous album: Dynasty from 1979. It contains their biggest hit, I Was Made for Loving You. It topped the Dutch Top 40 for 4 weeks and is in the Top 2000 every year.
