According to Peter Fischer, Eintracht Frankfurt has “slept through” women’s football

Eintracht Frankfurt merged with 1. FFC Frankfurt for the 2020/21 season. Peter Fischer now admits that the club should have taken this step sooner.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s outgoing president Peter Fischer says he simply missed the developments in women’s football. “There is a big decision that I made too late: professional women’s football. I was ill-advised and then I missed it,” said the 67-year-old in an interview with the “Frankfurter Rundschau”.

Eintracht only merged with the successful club 1. FFC Frankfurt for the 2020/2021 season. Since then, the footballers have been playing for Eintracht in the Bundesliga and have already played a few games at Deutsche Bank Park.

“That really annoys me”

In the Champions League they reached the group stage for the first time, but no longer have a chance of reaching the quarter-finals. “We should have brought them under the Eintracht umbrella much earlier, five years ago. That really annoys me now,” said Fischer.

After more than 23 years as president, the entrepreneur is no longer running for office at the general meeting on February 5th. The candidate for his successor is the businessman Mathias Beck.
