According to Oliver Ruhnert, Union Berlin is facing a “very complex transfer summer”

First goal relegation

Managing director Oliver Ruhnert does not expect an easy transfer period at Union Berlin after entering the Champions League. “I think we will have a slightly different situation than in previous years. I don’t know if our squad will be as complete as we would like at the start of training,” said the 51-year-old in a media session on Sunday. “We have a very complex transfer summer ahead of us. We have a lot of things to decide.” But you are well used to it.

The Berliners, who have repeatedly experienced major upheavals in recent years and nonetheless climbed the sporting ladder, will be playing in the “premier class” for the first time in the coming season. “The yardstick is to set up the team within the scope of our club’s possibilities in such a way that we believe we can improve it,” explained Ruhnert.

In every season since being promoted to the Bundesliga in 2019, Union has faced new challenges. “So it makes sense to work according to the motto ‘Cobbler stick to your last’,” said Ruhnert. “We want to have guys here who are fun for the spectators, who are also fun for the club, in that they invest everything, give everything for us.”
