Jan Versteegh’s TV career is officially declared half-dead by Luuk Ikink, the big star of RTL Boulevard. “It looked promising, but now there is a brake.”
Jan Versteegh will never become a very big TV star, because he lacks personality for that. He can talk things like Lingo together, but that’s about it. Now that the game show does not seem to be returning for the time being, the presenter’s agenda is starting to become very empty.
John has been skipped
It is brought up by Luuk Ikink in the latest episode of the BLVD Podcast. “Something is going on with Jan Versteegh. Lingo is about to retire and it almost seems that his career has also fallen into a kind of dormant state. We almost never see him on television anymore. Do you think it’s the end of the story for Lingo?”
Yes, says co-host Rob Goossens. He points out that SBS 6 will start tonight with a new variant: Lettrix. “It was skipped for Lettrix, so in that respect: it’s just an increasingly difficult story. Talpa really tried a lot with Jan.”
“Everything flops!”
Rob notices that Jan’s SBS 6 career is not really getting off the ground. The biggest flop was of course 6 Inside, in which Rob himself was also involved. “And one after the other turns out not to work.”
And Small But Nice then? That will return. “But one program in such a thick contract is scant.”
Colleague Luuk: “Yes, and also because of course they will look like: yes, is that a nice program by Jan Versteegh? Or is it a nice program because the format is just well put together?”
‘I’m sorry’
Luuk thinks it’s annoying for Rob. “I think it’s a pity. For example, we have not seen Jan Versteegh outside the past five years at SBS, or how long has he been there. And by a program I simply mean that he goes on a report or goes somewhere, which he used to do at BNN. I always find him strong there.”
He continues: “And only in the studio is limited. I feel like I’ve only seen him do Lingo for the past two years. That’s a shame for your career, I think. It looked very promising, but now there is a kind of brake on it.”
Wastes away
Rob thinks Jan is just a nice guy. “Jan Versteegh languishes on television, but I think he has only become more fun as a person and as a presenter, because he has a food podcast and there is really nothing wrong with that.”
