Just before midnight, three cars collided with each other on the N246 in Markenbinnen. One of the three cars flipped over and ended up in the water next to the road.

Both the Zaanse and the Alkmaar emergency services turned out in large numbers. A diving team managed to get two people out of the car that had hit the water. Both were taken to hospital in critical condition. “We are currently still looking for possible more victims in the water,” said a police spokesman.

rescue operation

It appears that the occupants of the other two cars were not injured. “But all focus is now on the car that hit the water,” said the spokesman about the rescue operation. It is not yet clear how exactly the accident could have happened.

The N246 is littered with debris and closed for the rescue operation and investigation. This will probably last all night.
