An accident happened this afternoon on the N33 near Gieterveen between a camper, car with trailer and two passenger cars. One person has been rushed to hospital, six others have been examined in an ambulance. The condition of the victims is unknown.
Emergency services were called just before 5.30pm. Several ambulances came to the scene of the accident. An air ambulance also landed.
The N33 near Gieterveen was closed to traffic for hours in the direction of Veendam. Due to the collision, the road was partly littered with car parts and other belongings. It took a while to get everything cleaned up. The road is now clear again, Rijkswaterstaat reports.
It is not known how the accident could have happened. The police are investigating.
