The emergency services responded en masse to a building of parcel delivery company DHL Express on the Jan Hilgersweg in Eindhoven on Friday morning, after a package leaked a toxic liquid there. This concerns the harmful substance dichloromethane, which is used as a solvent.
The report came in around ten to eight. According to a spokesperson on site, it was a small leaking package that was intended for a company in Oss. Because it was a dangerous substance, 112 was immediately called.
The building was evacuated shortly afterwards. Several dozen DHL employees waited outside while firefighters in gas masks safely removed the leaking package. Just before nine o’clock, the Safety Region reported via X that the situation is now ‘stable and under control’.
Ultimately, three people were checked in the ambulance. It is unclear whether they came into direct contact with the substance.
