«This evening, returning from Milan, I was waiting for a taxi to go home, I was waiting for it not far from the station. The taxi was about to arrive, I got off the pavement and waited for it behind a van parked in the second row. I had my back turned and was looking straight at the street. I don’t notice that the Van is in reverse. It overwhelms me and throws me face forward onto the asphalt” says the presenter on social media. «I hear someone yelling at him “stop! There’s one behind it!” I roll towards the center of the road to avoid the van crushing me” he continues.
The driver’s accusations
Injured and scared, Monica Leofreddi says she was not helped by the driver. On the contrary. «He starts screaming accusing me of pretending, he screams that he didn’t hit me but that I jumped!» writes on social media. Accusations also supported by another person who «screams “it’s true! She didn’t touch you.” I slowly got up, I was humiliated, hurt not only physically but above all psychologically. I tried to assert my reasons but he continued to deny it. Only one gentleman confirmed that I had been hit. I asked him “can you testify?” He said yes, the driver was still screaming and denying it.”
The tears and despair
It is not easy to manage emotions in certain situations. «I who pontificate every day on how one should behave in every situation, in a moment of difficulty, I was only able to burst into tears. I didn’t take the license plate, I just said ‘you’re a criminal, shame on you’.” She then took a taxi and went home.

Not just physical pain. Monica Leofreddi says that something else scared her too. “I felt fragile, alone, scared by so much incivility.” And then there is the frustration: «I was always so strong, at times aggressive, I found myself crying in a taxi without having been able to protect my right to report the accident, my dignity». The presenter was then helped by the taxi driver. She returned home with the awareness of not wanting to “hide my fragility”. “I’m fine, just a few bruises” she writes again to reassure her followers. And she concludes with a question: “Will the driver be ashamed?”.
