Outperformed Newcastle United
AC Milan’s courtship of Sven Botman appears to be successful. As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports, the current Serie A leaders are close to signing the 22-year-old LOSC Lille centre-back. Botman is ready to accept the Rossoneri’s offer.

Talks between the parties involved have been going on for months, Milan had already tried to process a transfer in January. However, Lille was not prepared to let Botman, who was tied until 2025, go in the winter. The Dutchman’s advisors were spotted again in Milan in February. According to Romano, AC Milan are now working to reach an agreement in the negotiations with LOSC in the near future.
“He’s a great player,” said Paolo Maldini, technical director of the Rossoneri, when asked about Botman at the beginning of January, who was also being courted intensively by Newcastle United. The “Magpies” are said to have made an offer of 35 million euros in the winter, which was rejected. Sums of up to 50 million euros were circulated as a redemption claim – too much for the interested parties.

Court for Botman: AC Milan surpasses Newcastle United
“Some players like Sven Botman really wanted to come to us. He’s still interested and is very open about it,” Newcastle chief executive Amanda Staveley said after the winter transfer window. AC Milan has now arguably trumped the Premier League club. Lille signed Botman for €8m from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer of 2020 and since then he has made 75 appearances (three goals) for LOSC and won the French championship last season.
