AC Milan remains on Inter’s heels

After five wins, Inter Milan made their first mistake in the new Serie A season. The Champions League finalist surprisingly lost 1:2 (1:0) to Sassuolo Calcio on matchday 6 in front of their own fans on Saturday evening. Yann Sommer didn’t look good when he conceded the first goal.

The former Bayern Munich goalkeeper had a shot from Nedim Bajrami hit the near corner (54′), nine minutes later Domenico Berardi (63′) also scored for Sassuolo. In the final phase of the first half, Denzel Dumfries (45th + 1) gave Inter the lead.

Due to the defeat of their local rivals, AC Milan moves very close to the league leaders. Stefano Pioli’s team won their game on Wednesday against bottom-placed Cagliari Calcio with 3:1 (2:1) and drew level with Inter on points.

Zito Luvumbo scored in the 29th minute to give Cagliari the lead, which Milan was able to counter in the first half. Noah Okafor (40th) and Fikayo Tomori (45th + 1) turned the game around, in which the home team continued to play bravely. Milan, with German international Malick Thiaw in central defense, consistently took advantage of their chances and increased the score through Ruben Loftus-Cheek (60′).

Champions SSC Naples were also successful – with a goal from striker Victor Osimhen to make it 2-0, the final score was 4-1 (2-0) against Udinese Calcio. Osimhen had announced that he was considering a lawsuit against his club after Napoli mocked him with a video on social media.

Napoli are now fourth ahead of record champions Juventus Turin, who couldn’t go beyond a 0-0 draw at Atalanta Bergamo.
