AC/DC are said to be preparing for a tour of Brazil this year. This is reported by “NME” with reference to the Brazilian newspaper “O Globo”. Accordingly, the band will give four concerts in the Latin American country. Two performances would take place at the Morumbi Stadium in São Paulo, while they will also reportedly be at the Rock In Rio Festival in Rio de Janeiro for two dates.
Apparently there should also be concerts on German soil in 2024. A performance in Munich on June 12, 2024 is being planned – that would be the first gig in Europe for Angus Young, Brian Johnson and colleagues since their performance in Düsseldorf’s Espirit Arena in June 2016. At that time, Axl Rose was still the band’s frontman.
Cliff Williams is apparently no longer involved. Who could replace the bassist live is currently unknown.
Comedian and actor Dean Delray claimed to have learned from a “highly reliable source” that AC/DC will be touring with a new bassist this year. He shared this information via Instagram. The comedian emphasized that he would not reveal the name of the new musician, but would rather leave it to the band themselves.
Cliff Williams’ resignation
The news comes as no surprise. After all, Cliff Williams announced his retirement at the end of the 2015-2016 “Rock Or Bust” tour. Nevertheless, he returned for the recording sessions of the album “Power Up” (2020) and for the Power Trip Festival 2023. However, in a podcast interview three years ago, Williams made it clear that he would not be touring with the group again – information that seemed to have been overlooked by many fans.
Cliff Williams’ departure from the band in 2016 was influenced by health problems, including a severe period of dizziness. However, the return of singer Brian Johnson and drummer Phil Rudd convinced him to become part of the band again. The bassist emphasized that his participation in the recording of “Power Up” was a tribute to the late rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young.
What we know about the 2024 AC/DC tour
The Australian band hasn’t even officially announced this year’s tour yet. A screenshot previously circulated online that supposedly shows AC/DC’s concert dates for 2024, as we reported on January 10th. First, “oe24.at” and the “Westfälische Nachrichten” reported on concert dates that a man named Marco Meierhöfer is said to have published on his YouTube channel. This post can no longer be found. If the dates were right, the hard rock legends would appear eleven times this spring in Germany, twice in Austria and once in Slovakia.
It remains to be seen whether there is actually any truth to these rumors. As is well known, the group does not promote comprehensive communication with the public, which makes the situation even more opaque.
