Abstention, free travel for those who return to vote

S.and if confirmed, it would be the highest share in the history of our country: 35.8% is the abstention rate estimated by the polls for the parliamentary elections on September 25th (average between Demopolis, Tecnè, Emg, Ipsos and Euromedia) but there are those who fear even worse data. Something like 16 million (non) voters, about 5 times more than in the 1970s when the non-voting trend started. A phenomenon that depends on various reasons, such as taken over by a commission of experts set up by the Minister for Relations with Parliament.

Abstention for protest. But not only

Let’s consider that in the first republican elections for the Chamber of Deputies over 92% of the population took part in the vote, in the 2018 elections less than 73%. In the 2019 European elections, less than 55% of voters. It has weight, of course, the ability to mobilize parties, less and less rooted in the territory: abstention is in this case an expression of protest towards politics. But there is also a involuntary abstention, due to an increase in work and study mobility which makes it difficult to get to the polling station.

Free travel with Flixbus for those who return to vote

The FlixBus initiative is dedicated to those who would like to vote but live outside their home, away from the municipality of residence: in the week preceding the vote (therefore from Monday 19th to Sunday 25th itself) whoever gets on a company vehicle is entitled to a full refund of the trip. All information on the initiative (with the conditions and deadlines to be observed) can be found on the dedicated page of the site.

Colored stickers to say I vote

For the lazy and undecided, however, a sticker can be used, such as those designed by Olimpia Zagnoli and disseminated on Instagram: to «remind everyone of the importance of voting. Lively and colorful images that represent a sign of hope for the future », said the designer. By clicking on the stickers shared in Instagram Stories, people will be able to log in to the website of the Ministry of the Interior and obtain information on the elections.

To vote with the dog, you can (generally)

If the element that makes traveling to the polling station difficult is a furry friend in the house, Oipa ensures: in general, you can also vote with the dog. Obviously, it must be carried diligently on a leash avoiding the “lead” and the sliding mode in the case of an extendable leash. It is also good to bring the muzzle to be worn, as required by law, only in case of need and, therefore, if required to access the seat with the four-legged friend.

“It is useful to inquire at the entrance of the building that houses the ballot boxes: usually the same police forces present can provide us with instructions and, in case of doubt, we cordially explain that there is already a positive indication from the Ministry of the Interior»Specifies the lawyer Claudia Taccani. «In case of denied access, never leave our dog unattended outside the school: he could be stressed or frightened. Finally, we remind you that we could be responsible in case of damage caused by our dog even if at that moment it is not with us, and above all we always keep in mind that the danger of theft of unattended animals is always looming ».
