Above-ground parking in Bruges? This provides city coffers…

“In 2023, a total of almost 1 million parking sessions were started (999,508) for above-ground parking on public domain,” says the City of Bruges.

“These sessions could be started via the parking meters and/or digitally (SMS or app). This yielded a total of €4,507,722.25. In 2022, the income was still €3,885,233.45.”

“This increase is related to an increase in the number of parking sessions started (976,066, +2.5%), but also to the rate increase that took effect on January 1, 2023,” says Mayor Dirk De fauw.

“Most tickets were taken for the normal ‘long-term parking rate’: 716,365 (72%). The rest of the sessions were started as short-term parking (189,094), work rate (92,685) or student rate (1,364).

BRG1, the machine in the Kiss & Ride zone on the center side of the station, remains the machine where most parking sessions are started. A total of 24,996 (digital) tickets were taken here. This is an increase of almost 4,000 tickets compared to 2022, but still a lot less than 2019 (30,252). The average parking duration is 129 minutes on weekends and 141 minutes on weekdays,” the city said.
