‘About 150 people are sleeping outside again at the Ter Apel registration center’

Due to crowds, approximately 150 people will have to sleep outside at the registration center in Ter Apel. That is what the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) expects.

At the end of the afternoon it was still busy in Ter Apel, a COA spokeswoman reported to the ANP news agency. A number of people have been taken to the crisis emergency shelter in Stadskanaal, but that does not prevent people from spending the night outside again.

In the night from Sunday to Monday, about 150 people were already sleeping outside the registration center. From Saturday to Sunday, 200 to 250 asylum seekers also spent the night outside the gates.

The Groningen application center has been too full for months, so that people sometimes have to sleep outside. This is the result of the halted flow of asylum seekers. Asylum seekers’ centers no longer have a place and status holders cannot move on to a house due to, among other things, the overheated housing market. In order to provide temporary relief, the cabinet wants another 5600 crisis emergency shelters to be created.

The people who sleep outside this night can take shelter under canopies from the rain that is expected.
