Abigail serves snacks and drinks on her head in Erp

The Ghanaian Abigail Dekkers-Ohemeng from Keldonk caused a stir almost a year ago by delivering stacks of leaflets on her head. She now has a workplace. Visitors to hotel/restaurant Het Tramstation in Erp have recently been served their snacks and drinks in a very special way.

Abigail has been working at Het Tramstation for several days in the restaurant service. She also lends a hand at the hotel. She will continue to add to the advertising brochures for the time being.

Four beers, two rosé, one white wine, two colas and one orange. They are orders that she does not turn her back on. In fact, she puts the tray on her head and takes another plate of food in each hand for the guests. She previously told Omroep Brabant: “That’s just how it works in Ghana, it doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t hurt or anything. Only the people here are not used to it.”

“Very special. She can carry up to eighty kilos on her head.”

“She serves everything on her head. That is very special. She can carry up to eighty kilos on it,” says Petra van Zutphen, owner of Het Tramstation. “Abigail recently worked for a fast food chain in Uden. But that was a hassle with transport. She lives practically around the corner.”

According to Petra, the guests think it’s ‘great’. “She has a lot of attention. Every now and then we put on African music while serving. She already feels completely at home.” And the guests have already found a way to watch Abigail serve. “They order an extra round.”
