Abdi Nageeye will once again be at the start of the NN Marathon Rotterdam on Sunday 16 April. At the previous edition, he became the first Dutchman to win on the Coolsingel. The organization previously announced Bashir Abdi, the Belgian European record holder and friend of Nageeye.
With the arrival of Abdi Nageeye, the top favorite for the national title fight is immediately known, because after years in Amsterdam, the Dutch Championships will be held during the Rotterdam Marathon for the next two years.
But Nageeye, three-time national champion and Dutch record holder, will mainly look at his international competitors. A year after his victory in 2:04:56, he will again want to fight for the win.
In addition, the audience will also be curious about any friendly services between him and his bosom friend Bashir Abdi. In 2021, the two went around the world, when Nageeye took care of the Belgian in the Olympic final sprint, who was allowed to take the podium third after him. Eleven weeks later, Bashir Abdi – born in Somalia just like Nageeye – won in a European and course record of 2.03.36 on the Coolsingel.
In April of this year it was Bashir Abdi who helped Nageeye in a lesser form on his way to victory, for example by slowing down the pace of the leading group. He himself had to settle for fourth place. Since then, Bashir Abdi was third in London and at the World Cup in Eugene, while Nageeye was third in New York.
Other toppers will be announced soon, let the organization know. “With an appealing duo like Abdi and Abdi, it promises to be another spectacular marathon,” says Mario Kadiks, who has temporarily returned as organizer of the NN Marathon Rotterdam. “With such toppers you can expect a great race and fast times.”
