The layman is amazed, and the expert is amazed: To date, ABBA has not been able to win what is probably the most important of all music trophies. At the upcoming award ceremony, however, the chances of the first Grammy are good. The Swedish quartet has been nominated four times. As the organizing Recording Academy announced on Tuesday (November 16), ABBA will be in the running for the categories “Album of the Year”, “Record of the Year”, “Best Pop Vocal Album” and “Best Pop Duo / Group Performance”. .
“We propose a new category: ABBA”
Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Fältskog received their first nominations in the run-up to the last award. They quipped in an interview at the time: “A Grammy should be mandatory for those who can manage to let 40 years pass between albums. We propose a new category: ABBA / Agnetha, Björn, Benny, Anni-Frid”. Instead of their single “I Still Have Faith in You”, Silk Sonic’s “Leave the Door Open” ultimately won in the “Record of the Year” category.
Beyoncé with the most nominations
Beyoncé, who received a total of nine nominations, has even greater prospects for a Grammy. Rapper Kendrick Lamar followed with eight nominations and singers Adele and Brandi Carlile with seven each. The winners will be announced on February 5th in Los Angeles. It is now up to around 13,000 members of the Recording Academy to decide on the award winners.
