A footballer’s serious injury led to the abandonment of the fourth division game between the second team of TSG Hoffenheim and VfR Aalen on Friday evening.
Aalen striker Steffen Kienle had hit the post and was unconscious on the ground. After minutes of treatment, the 28-year-old was taken away, but on the way to the hospital Kienle was “stable and responsive,” his club said.
The referee called off the Regionalliga Südwest game after about an hour when the score was 0-0. Hoffenheim, second in the table, are still fighting for promotion to the 3rd division with three games to go, while Aalen is in a relegation battle.
