Early this morning, a car was upside down in the water at the Cronenburgerlaantje in Castricum. The fire service searched the ditch for the driver, but they did not find him there.
Passers-by saw the car in the water around 7:15 a.m. and called the emergency services. “The fire service has searched the water for the occupants,” said a police spokesman. “But no one was found.”
“We will investigate who drove the car,” says the spokesperson. “Because it is a criminal offense to leave the scene of an accident.” The fire brigade has hoisted the car out of the water and a salvage company will remove the vehicle.
