Aaron Rodgers saved Randall Cobb from NFL retirement

Since joining the New York Jets, Aaron Rodgers has persuaded many of his peers to do the same. The NFL quarterback even stopped his buddy Randall Cobb from hanging up his football shoes entirely.

On “The Carton Show” Cobb revealed that he was seriously considering quitting in the spring because of the lack of prospects. “I’m going into my 13th season right now and I wasn’t sure if I was actually going to play and then Aaron called me.”

Rodgers didn’t exactly throw castles in the air during the phone call. “[Er meinte,] ‘hey, [New York] could be an opportunity for you, we’ll see how it all plays out,'” Cobb quoted the Jets’ most prominent signing as saying.

In the Green Bay Packers jersey, the wide receiver caught Rodgers’ balls for a total of ten years. This interaction earned Cobb a Pro Bowl nomination in the 2014 season.

At the beginning of the offseason, the 32-year-old did not get a new contract in Wisconsin. So after nearly 12 NFL seasons and 58 touchdowns, Cobb thought it appropriate to retire.

NFL: Aaron Rodgers asked Cobb for help

At the beginning of May, things finally turned around: Randall Cobb signed on for a year with the New York Jets. In addition to Rodgers, Tim Boyle, Allen Lazard, Malik Taylor, Billy Turner and Adrian Amos, the receiver is the seventh player in the Gang Green squad to have previously played for the Packers.

However, Cobb made no bones about it on “The Carton Show” that he only signed in the Big Apple because of Rodgers’ request.

“He approached me and told me he needed me. That’s all I needed to hear,” explained the former second-round pick. “That showed me that I can still offer added value as a player.” Cobb now also wants to pass on his knowledge to the younger generation, he assured.
