A9 exit Stadshart Amstelveen closed due to problem during work

The A9 exit 5 Amstelveen Stadshart will be closed until at least 3 p.m. this afternoon due to emergency repairs. This is the exit you will encounter when you come from the Badhoevedorp junction. Rijkswaterstaat reports that one of the anchor cables that hold the new sheet piles in place has broken.

“It must be repaired and we are now checking the rest to be sure,” said a spokesman. According to the spokesperson, there is no acute danger, but the organization wants to be on the safe side by carefully checking the other sheet piles.

Contractor Veenix is currently installing in two years three kilometers of sheet piling to enable the sunken location on the northern side of the A9. Two kilometers of walls have already been placed.

“You can see the sunken location as a trench in the ground. You have to excavate the inside, but to ensure that the soil remains in place on the outside, we place sheet piles as a retaining wall,” explains project leader Pieter Kastermans. on the Rijkswaterstaat website.

Lots of pressure

All those sheet piles are secured deep underground with anchors. Such an anchor provides extra strength. During the work, a lot of pressure is put on the sheet piles and anchors. Rijkswaterstaat will decide around 3 p.m. this afternoon whether the current anchors are sufficient or whether measures are necessary.
