The A28 highway was closed for a second time near Haren on Sunday evening because two cars collided in a traffic jam. The traffic jam arose because earlier in the evening a camper completely burned out a little further away.
The fire in the camper started just before 8 p.m. The driver parked the vehicle on the emergency lane. The three occupants, a family with a child, managed to escape in time.
The highway was completely closed for some time due to the fire-fighting activities. One lane reopened around 8:15 p.m. The accident caused a traffic jam in the direction of Groningen.
Second accident
Around 9:55 p.m. things went wrong again, this time at the matrix signs that indicated that traffic should continue on one lane. The four occupants of the two cars involved in the second accident were checked for their injuries at the scene. It turned out that they weren’t too bad: they didn’t have to go to the hospital.
The second accident left a lot of glass on the road. As a result, a military police car suffered a flat tire and had to be towed away. After the asphalt was cleaned, one lane reopened around 10:45 p.m.
