A12 closed: this weekend you cannot drive directly from Zoetermeer to Utrecht

Everything needs maintenance, including the Gouwe aqueduct. Next weekend, Rijkswaterstaat will be carrying out work that will close the A12 towards Utrecht. This means a diversion and extra travel time for you.

The closure of the A12 in the direction of Utrecht will be from Saturday January 27 at 9 p.m. to Monday January 29 at 5 a.m.

Zoetermeers in the direction of Utrecht

Do you have to be in or beyond Utrecht this weekend? Motorists should take into account approximately 30 minutes of extra driving time. Rijkswaterstaat communicates the diversion route via yellow signs and digital information panels along the road. The alternative route runs via the N209, towards Bleiswijk and Rotterdam, the A20 towards Gouda and Woerden and then the A27 towards Utrecht.

Another option is to take the train. Sprinters run directly to Utrecht twice an hour from Zoetermeer, Zoetermeer Oost and Lansingerland-Zoetermeer train stations. If you change to the intercity at Gouda train station, it will take just over half an hour.

Maintenance and a moisture problem

Rijkswaterstaat not only carries out periodic maintenance. They also solve a moisture problem in one of the joint transitions. Freezing and thawing moisture can cause damage to the aqueduct. For this purpose, employees are working across the entire width of the aqueduct. A partial closure of the A12 is therefore necessary.
