There were moments of horror in the Swedish Allsvenskan on Sunday, when a young adult collapsed in the stands during the football match between Elfsborg and Häcken.
In the last minutes of the match, the game was stopped for several minutes. Panicked spectators shouted for help in the stands when they noticed the young adult collapsed.
The players noticed the cries for help from the spectators on the field.
– They were a dizzying few minutes. Miserable. Two people entered the field and I didn’t understand anything. I heard Tim’s (Rönning) calling a doctor for help. Then I noticed the panicked people in the stands, Elfsborg Simon Strand told for Aftonbladet.
Strand and Rönning immediately ran to the player corridor. Partly to fetch Elfsborg’s doctor Matilda Lundbald for help, but also for another reason.
– I knew the defibrillator was there. I acted almost in shock, I did things automatically.
Rönning and Häcken’s player Ibrahim Sadiqi helped carry the stretcher into the stands while more medical personnel arrived.
The spectators spread out and made room.
According to Lundblad, several people who work in intensive care helped.
– Our emergency team was also there quickly. After a while, he (the spectator) became active. Everything seems to have gone well and our thoughts are with him and his family, Lundblad said.
The spectator was taken by ambulance to the hospital for further examination.
– Those were crazy minutes. People were running everywhere. We tried to do everything as quickly as possible. All credit to the medical staff, Häcken Blair Turgott said and continued:
– It was terrible. Bigger than football. It gives perspective when something like this happens. It was beautiful to see all the players helping each other, taking care of each other. It went straight to the heart.
