A very real murder by SJ Bennet: the review by Serena Dandini

StEverything has been published about Queen Elizabeth II, even her death certificate. In the paragraph asking to indicate the cause of death they wrote: “Advanced age”, blocking any other conspiracy in the bud.

It’s been a tumultuous year for journalists specializing in the British monarchy who eagerly chase every news story including the announcement that baby Louis’ first baby tooth has fallen out.

What if the fifth season of The Crown has somewhat disappointed its admirers, awaiting the sixth scheduled for the autumn, Prince Harry’s book-revelation took care of it to revive curiosity about palace intrigues worthy of a Shakespearean drama.

But the best part comes in May with the coronation of King Charles III, finally king after the longest waiting room in history. Everyone is holding their breath, even waiting for the reprobate Harry (alone, without Meghan), and advances are already leaking about Camilla’s dress who will become queen against all odds.

Visiting Germany, Camilla wears the Queen Mother's diamonds. A precious tribute

Who would have thought? Yet in the end even this strange love has triumphed. It seems that the tailor in charge is Bruce Oldfield, one of Lady D’s favorite stylists. Provocation? Reconciliation? You do it, I’m already tired just thinking of the endless live broadcasts that every TV on the planet will dedicate to the ceremony and all the related celebrations.

One thing is certain, for the first time in history, Camilla’s crown will not be, as tradition dictates, brand new, but “recycled” from the one worn by Mary of Teck who in 1893 married King George V; they will only add two or three diamonds the size of walnuts and adapt it to the head – it seems more “important” – of the new queen.

It has been defined as a choice of sobriety in such a difficult moment for the world. We can only be grateful for this gesture of extreme sensitivity. If you can’t wait and need a small real dose, I recommend a tasty and literary one.
