IS trendy to die for. That you hold it with elegance as you move nimbly around the house, in time to the music. Or that you place it in its lodging on the wall, in plain sight, even in the living room, the luxury vacuum cleaner is the last object of desire for us girls.
I found out when one of my hippest friends confessed to giving it to herself for Christmas.
The price does not even tell you even if, knowing it, it would help to understand why the question appeared to me worthy of this reflection.
“It’s beautiful, do you see?” my friend said, immediately offering me a practical demonstration how the object is elegant, silent and effective. Nothing to say.
«Look – he invited me -: you can see with your eyes in the transparent capsule how much dust it pulls up from the carpet. The first time I used it I thought it was already clean, but I had to change my mind ».
Nothing to object. In the following quarter of an hour I learned how the same equipment is able to kill all the mattress mites with which we have so far lived peacefully. “There are many accessories – he concluded enthusiastically – but I will only use two”. Ok, but it was something else that left me perplexed.
Personally I’m willing to spend enough on an appliance, as long as it does something well and for me. Let me clean the floors while I read a book, knead panzerotti while taking a shower, turn all the lights on and off in case I forget.
Here, however, it is a question of taking a step back and in the name of science, elegance and the definitive mite hunt, return to the field in first person. But then I think about it better. The last time my friend used a vacuum cleaner was during lockdown, when her maid had to stay home. Imagining her now struggling with cleaning seems impossible to me.
And in fact I tell him: “But are you really going to go back to cleaning the carpets?“. She looks at me in amazement: «Imagine! Only if it is necessary. Sofia will use it, but I need to tell her how. I entrust you with an object of-li-ca-ti-ssi-mo! ».
And my doubts grow. Wasn’t a nice string of pearls better?
