A US news anchor and meteorologist has apparently been fired after quoting a rap artist Snoop Dogg on live broadcast.

The Independent including a news anchor from Mississippi Barbie Bassett has not been in the news since March 8, when Bassett slipped the fateful words.

The topic of fateful conversation in Bassett’s last performance for now was Snoop Dogg’s wine line.

In the broadcast, another journalist commented that Bassett could very well “get himself a Snoop Dogg tattoo”.

– Fo shizzle, my nizzle, Bassett quoted the rap artist in response.

If the sentence had been said by a dark-skinned person, the tongue-in-cheek utterance would turn into something like “toki, kamu” in Finnish.

“Nizzle” just happens to be the slang equivalent of the n-word.

The journalist who used the phrase is Caucasian.

“I’m going to learn”

Bassett apologized for his comments to the WLBT channel on the website.

– I used a term that was very offensive to many in our audience and work community here at WLBT. Although it was not intentional, I understand that my comment was thoughtless and hurtful, Bassett writes in his statement.

– I plan to learn from this and study the subject more so that I can better understand our history and our people.

The use of the N-word is highly charged in the United States. The use of the word is generally considered more acceptable when it is used by a dark-skinned person.

I say roots can be traced back to slavery.
