The band Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen Sana, which broke up three years ago, is coming back together in the form of a unique concert. Well-known Finnish rappers and an orchestra will perform on Sunday at Savonlinna’s Olavinlinna.

Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen Sana, which combines hip hop and jazz, was founded in 2010. Composer-guitarist Valtteri Laurell Pöyhönen led by a 17-member band and rap musicians Paleface, Redrama and Tommy Lindgren.

The rappers are looking forward to their unique gig. On the Instagram account of the group, photos have been published throughout the spring, in which the 20-member band is preparing for its only gig of the year.

– During training, the indoor air temperature is approx. +32. The temperature of the feeling is 100! the band updated their atmosphere from Savonlinna.

Rapper Paleface also published a joint photo with Redrama on his Instagram account, where he is glowing about meeting again on the same concert stage.

– We have been in the same band with Lassen before. Tommy just threw it nicely: “I see why the CY once was true / I now see conscious but I don’t see youth.”

Ricky-Tick Big Band and Julkinen Sana is the world’s first combination of three rappers and a big band. In nine years, the band had time to make two albums: Burning and Raise your stakes.

– Jazz and rap are related to each other and rap has always been sampled a lot of jazz. But this is the first time they are combined at this level, Paleface summed up the band’s idea for Iltalehti in 2015.

The lineup ceased operations in 2019, when the band members moved on to other music projects. After three years, the band performs in Olavinlinna, where they entertain the audience with their swinging music and direct lyrics about life and taboos.

The only gig of the year is also rare for the reason that the band didn’t play gigs often. Gatherings and live performances were difficult to organize, so there were few during the nine years. The members of the group described that there was always a strong charge at their gigs.

– Through the Ricky-Tick Big Band, each of us rappers is also one block in the 20-person lineup, and nothing more. It’s sickly cool, Tommy Lindgren said earlier.

The band’s return has aroused enthusiasm among their fanbase, because even for the listeners, the concert is a rare opportunity. The lineup is not actively coming back together.

– By the way, you guys were a great band a couple of times I saw them live! CY Nosturis, I remember you gave out donuts to everyone at the gig.

– Let it burn!

– We’ve been waiting for this, it’s coming!

– See you soon!

Paleface, Valtteri Pöyhönen, Tommy Lindgren and Redrama talked about Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen sana’s 2018 tour.
