Limit the arrival of cruise ships. Interrupt any promotional campaign by Turisme de Barcelona. Reduce the number of terraces. Give up any airport expansion… The Assembly of Barris pel Decreixement Turístic (ABDT) took to the streets this Sunday, perhaps with little convening capacity (there were barely thirty people) but certainly with ambition in its demands and above all with daring in its actions. They have stopped a Tourist Bus that passed by the Moll de la Fusta. They have placed banners and they did not let him continue. The action did not please one of the passengers in the vehicle, who got off the bus and had to be restrained by the Guardia Urbana. Although it seems like an anecdote, it has been something very symbolic about how after two years of calm due to the pandemic, the swords are still high.
With the city on the way to hanging the full sign again, the neighborhood assembly has insisted on remembering what was already warned before the pandemic, that in its opinion the tourism sector gentrifies neighborhoods, makes employment more precarious, raises prices, commodifies public space, causes noise at night, increases per capita water consumption and causes pollution in the worst of times.
