Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott was injured in blunt fashion just moments before the start of the men’s javelin qualifying competition in Budapest on Friday.

The achilles tendon of the London 2012 Games champion failed in warm-up before the World Cup qualifying competition that started at 10:10 local time.

In the worst case, the spear star’s Achilles tendon was severed. This would mean a very long sick leave.

Walcott has thrown 85.85 at his best this season. The man’s record is 90.16.

The Olympic champion competed in the Midsummer Games in Kuortanene this season as well. Jussi Saarinen
