A taste of the championship match in the Premier League – Will Mohamed Salah return for Liverpool’s opener?

Liverpool and Manchester City meet at Anfield on Sunday.

Will we see Mohamed Salah in the opening? PDO

The most interesting game of the day

Sunday’s most interesting football news is available from the Premier League, where Liverpool and Manchester City meet at Anfield in what could be a very decisive match for the championship.

The winning streak in the Premier League is at a record level this year. Ahead of the Liverpool-Manchester City match, Arsenal, Liverpool and City are within two points of each other at the top of the table.

Even though the teams have ten more matches after this round, a loss here would already be a big blow to the championship aspirations of either team.

After this, Liverpool will face Tottenham at home and Aston Villa away from the top teams. After this, City have three more games left between the top two (Arsenal and Aston Villa at home and Tottenham away). The setup makes the match a “can’t afford to lose” case, especially for City.

Suffered by injuries and a backlog of matches, Liverpool has managed to survive its more difficult period with a bit of a win, luckily (below is the seven-match winning streak, taking into account all competitions).

Now the team’s injury concerns are clearly on the way to ease when Darwin Nunez, Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah have recovered to playing condition. After a long time, Salah got 17 minutes of playing time in the Europa League match against Sparta Prague on Thursday. Now the Egyptian is expected to be even in the opening.

Of course, Liverpool still have absentees (Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, Diogo Jota, Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Joel Matip and Thiago), but even with academy players, it doesn’t have to be in the top fight.

Manchester City’s only sure absence is Jack Grealish. There are also small question marks Jeremy Dokun and by Matheus Nunes above game conditions. However, all the composition factors favor the away team.

There are no differences between the teams as far as the pacemakers are concerned, both have performed really well in relation to their resources recently. The balance of Liverpool’s previous ten matches, including all competitions, is 8-1-1 and Manchester City’s is 9-1-0.

Stress factors are a little more difficult for Liverpool, who stopped by in the Czech Republic on Thursday.

The first mutual meeting of the season ended 1-1 in Manchester in November. The nature of the match was tight and with few goals (City won the expected goal by 1.4–0.6). Since that game, the balance of power has now turned more in City’s direction due to Liverpool’s line-up situation.

In terms of betting, Manchester City likes this. Even though Liverpool has played well even with substitute formations, and even if, for example, Salah plays the whole match, the feeling of the game/ability with the recovered players cannot be the best possible.

The match may again be lower than expected and I consider Manchester City-0.25 found on the side of the Asian lines to be the best bet with a coefficient of 1.92. Even the promised 1.63 of less than 3.5 goals is at least a borderline case.

Liverpool–Manchester City starts at 17:45.

The best betting tip of the day

The best betting idea for Sunday is the low goal score in the La Liga match between Las Palmas and Athletic Bilbao.

The teams have scored few goals both in the entire season and in the last few games. At the level of the entire season, 67% (18/27) of Las Palmas’ matches have ended with less than 2.5 goals. At home, the reading is 62% (8/13). Athletic’s corresponding numbers are 52% (14/27) and in away games 77% (10/13).

Particularly interesting from under what makes it so is that in Las Palmas’ last four home games, the total number of expected goals has remained at eight goals, and correspondingly, in Athletic’s four previous away games, it has reached 4.2 goals!

When the opening meeting of the season between the teams in December at San Mamés was low-scoring both in terms of results (1–0) and in terms of play, it must be a miracle that this turns into a goal celebration. The 1.62 offered for under 2.5 goals is a meager odds of 62%. Las Palmas–Athletic Bilbao starts at 17:15.
