Actor Shannen Doherty, 52, is delighted by the latest twist in her treatments. In 2020, Doherty was diagnosed with a recurrence of the cancer, which has since spread to the brain and bones.
Now Doherty tells Let’s Be Informative podcast that he recently started a new treatment plan. The treatment in question has begun to show the results he hoped to see.
– We hardly saw a difference after four treatments, when everyone wanted me to change treatments. I said we need to continue this and then see. Only after the sixth or seventh treatment did we see them pass the blood-brain barrier, the actor says in the episode.
– Do I call it a miracle? Right now it’s a miracle to me. I was, so to speak, playing a lottery game and asked for a continuation. It is a miracle that the drug actually crossed the blood-brain barrier, he adds.
The blood-brain barrier is a physical barrier whose purpose is to prevent harmful substances from entering the bloodstream to the brain cells and central nervous system. The blood-brain barrier is a limiting factor in several treatment methods, as some drugs cannot reach the central nervous system because of it.
Doherty would not mention the details of his treatment plan. However, the actor is happy with the results.
– Sometimes you look for miracles in the wrong places, even though they are right in front of your face, he states.

Beverly Hills, 9021 star was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. By 2016, the cancer had spread to Doherty’s lymph nodes, and she had to undergo chemotherapy and radiation eight times. Doherty’s condition improved in 2017, but three years later the actor said the cancer had recurred. Doherty has openly shared her battle with cancer with her social media followers.
In June 2023, the actor said that the cancer had spread to his brain. In November, he said that the cancer had since spread to his bones.
– I don’t want to die. I’m not ready to give up. I haven’t stopped loving. I haven’t given up hope that things will get better. I’m just not. I’m not ready to leave yet, he told People magazine.
