A surprising Swedish joke was heard in the Barbie movie – Did you realize what it was referring to?

Will Ferrell’s character refers to Sweden in the film.

Having become extremely popular Barbie-film is full of more comical moments and sharper jokes. One of the jokes unexpectedly refers to our neighboring country Sweden.

In the movie, the Barbie character has come from her own world of Barbie Land to the real world, and this causes a crisis for Mattel, the company that created Barbie. Mattel’s CEO is played by Will Ferrell in the movie. When Mattel employee Aaron goes to tell the company’s management about Barbie’s escape into the real world, he asks what Barbie Land is really about.

– Think of it a bit as if it were a city in Sweden, says the CEO, portrayed by Ferrell.

After this, Mattel’s all-male management team still repeats the word Sweden.

Even for Finns, it’s funny to hear a reference to Sweden in a Hollywood mega-movie, but what is the reference actually about? Will Ferrell, who shoots the joke, has close ties to Sweden, which probably inspired the throw.

Ferrell’s wife Viveca Paulin is Swedish. The couple got married in 2000. Since then they have had three children.

The Ferrell family has a summer home in the small town of Gnesta, south of Stockholm.

– They live here because they want peace and quiet. They don’t want nosy people running after them, a neighbor has told a local newspaper.

Ferrell has brought up Sweden and Swedishness, for example, in his talk show appearances. He has said that his Swedish wife has introduced him to Eurovision, for example. This eventually led to the Eurovision movie released on Netflix Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Sagain which Ferrell co-starred and which he also wrote and produced.

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling star in the Barbie movie. PDO
