You have flat TVs with equally flat sound. And you have soundbars for a fuller sound image. But if that is not enough and needs extra bass, you can install a subwoofer. Sonos had such a cabinet in its range for some time (the pricey one Sub) and now also has a variant for the smaller wallet and the smaller living room.
This so-called Sub Mini is not as mini as its name suggests: it is still a sturdy and sturdy device. Sonos has several soundbars in its range (the large Arc, the Beam and the compact Ray). The Mini seems ideally suited in combination with the Ray or possibly Beam when placed in a not too large living room. Sonos itself mentions thirty square meters, which the gadget desk sticks to. And indeed: in such a space, the extra power of the Sub Mini makes itself felt. Both music and action scenes in films or series get a good dose of bass, without it becoming overpowering. Incidentally, you can also set how much surplus should be added in the app.
The subwoofer can be combined with, for example, only a Ray, but also with two One speakers, or with two cheaper Symfonisk speakers from Ikea for a surround system. This is all wireless with Sonos, which means that all speakers are connected with WiFi and not with wires. Of course you still have to put a plug in the socket. The installation is always fairly simple with Sonos, although this time adding it to an existing system did not go smoothly. The ‘move your smartphone over the top of the subwoofer’ method didn’t work. Fortunately, Sonos offers an additional option in the form of manually entering a PIN code, somewhere in a dark hole at the bottom of the device. Bit of a hassle, but that’s a one-time thing.
Once it’s successful, the Sub is linked to the existing Sonos system and the movie or music lover can enjoy extra bass. Unfortunately, this is accompanied by a price that is a lot lower than the large Sub, but it is not really mini. The gain of a good subwoofer on top of a soundbar is smaller than that of a soundbar on top of a flat TV. So for the real bass lover.
