Shortly after the invasion of Ukraine in 2022 RefugeeHomeNL in life groups, a collaboration between four aid organizations. RefugeeHomeNL made matches between refugees and host families and offered guidance – for example if a Ukrainian family left again or if there were tensions.
On December 31, 2023, RefugeeHomeNL stop its activities. This was decided in close consultation with the parties involved, the main reason being a significant decrease in the number of guests and host families, according to Bastiaan van Blokland, spokesperson for the Red Cross.
However, there are still families that will receive Ukrainian refugees after December 31 continue to house, like Astrid and Paul in Nijmegen.
