A store opened in Raisio, where you can get food especially cheap

Coffee is the absolute favorite product of junk food stores.

This is what it looks like in Raisio’s pop-up store. Smart food

Cheap junk food is doing its business now. Waste food store Fiksuruoka says its turnover increased by almost a third last year.

The company, which previously operated only as an online store, opened a pop-up store in Raisio in January. The store’s popularity has surprised the CEO Juhani Järvensivu.

– The number of customers has exceeded our original expectations. Customers are clearly interested in visiting the pop-up to see what kind of offers are available there. Next, we want to learn how well customers return to the store in the longer term, Järvensivu says.

Particularly popular products in the pop-up shop have become Paulig’s Christmas coffee, Lotus Emilia economic paper and Mutti tomato puree. Sports drinks and protein bars have also sold quickly.

– There are really big differences in the sales volume of the products depending on the product’s brand awareness, product category and product price, Järvensivu says.

Fiksuruoka sells food removal batches at discount prices. Lot sizes can vary considerably: some products can be in the thousands, some only tens. Prices also vary. The best lots sell out in no time, while others may take longer to sell.

– In any case, no product is in our selection forever, but we reduce wastage in those products where it is at risk of occurring.

After Raisio’s pop-up store opened, customers have hoped that brick-and-mortar stores would come to other parts of Finland. According to Järvensivu, no decisions have been made one way or the other yet.

Coffee has become a big favorite at both the Fiksuruoa pop-up store and the waste food online store Matsmart. The customers of the pop-up store have been hoping for new coffee offers from the sellers. Jouni Kuru

Coffee and candy

The Matsmart waste food store operates online in Finland. Finns’ love for coffee has also been noticed at Matsmart.

– Finns are hard-pressed to drink coffee, and it remains one of their favorite products regardless of the season, says Matsmart Finland’s marketing manager Iina Lehto.

Among the brands, Paulig’s coffees in particular get buyers moving at a record pace.

Favorite products at the beginning of the year at Matsmart are especially protein products, and in the summer, different drinks go to the hot stones.

– Candies are in the same category as coffee, they taste good regardless of the season, says Lehto.

Among the bars, Fazer’s Turkey Peppers have become the favorites of Matsmart customers. Batches of Santa Maria tortillas also sell out quickly.
