The ingredients of traditional Christmas films are all there, starting from the plot. The protagonist is Margaret Bingham (played by Ann-Margret in the adult version) who she tells her granddaughter about the event that changed her life. Her goal is to convince her to audition for a ballet. Thanks to this confession, the girl discovers unknown aspects of her grandmother’s past, which are now intertwined with her present.
The story moves to 1958 in Philadelphia where Margaret (Ginna Claire Mason) she feels trapped in a context that suffocates her. He is part of the city’s high society and belongs to a wealthy family and his parents expect nothing more than to get married to an equally prominent son, Maxwell (Torsten Johnson). And it doesn’t matter that she isn’t in love with him and that his marriage is a stretch for her. She is a woman and her job is to settle down and respect conventions.
Maggie, however, he studies dance and cultivates the dream of joining the Rockettes, the dance troupe of Radio City Music Hall in New York. Destiny has a hand in it.
On Thanksgiving he is in New York with his parents and accidentally attends a show. It’s an epiphany. She understands that that is his path. He thus participates in an audition, but it happens almost for fun. To her amazement, she is chosen.

Maggie goes to New York and meets John
Once admitted, she decides to move to the metropolis and start a new adventure. However, she has to face a huge obstacle: her family and her boyfriend. She has no choice but to lie. She tells her parents and future husband that she is going to stay at a friend’s house. And, having packed his bags, he throws himself into the frenzy of the Big Apple.
His life is turned upside down as soon as he gets out of the taxi. Meet John (Derek Klena), a young US Army photographer with dreams of becoming a photojournalist. Their relationship immediately had something magical. «Both are chasing their dreams. They support and encourage each other to achieve their respective goals”, explains Ginna Claire Mason in an interview published by Hallmarkthe film’s production company.
And then there are the rehearsals with the Rockettes and the show A spectacular Christmas to prepare. Her new life is everything she’s ever wanted. She feels fulfilled and happy with the opportunity she got. Well, a few days before Christmas, Margaret – who in New York is Maggie for everyone – receives an unexpected visit.

Her parents and boyfriend arrive in town and discover the truth. “You’re making the biggest mistake of your life,” they tell her.
