After the Ilves-luotsi took a time-out in the second period, the course of Tampere’s local game turned. Oula Palve, who will welcome a baby girl to her family in the spring, hit the hat.
In Tampere’s fifth local game of the season, head coach of Ilves Antti Pennanen took a timeout in the second period in 22:38 when his team’s game was quite sticky.
– Now Pennanen looks like a wizard when he tried to wake up the team, commented Ilves’ golden helmet Oula Palve.
– It worked and then things turned around, added the center forward who scored three goals in Tappara’s net.
Ilves was losing 0–1 when Pennanen took more time. After one minute and six seconds of added time, Palve scored to make it 1–1 and at 9:07 a.m. after thirty seconds of added time, he took the tassel ears to a 2–1 lead.
– I heard a bit of what Pennanen said. But I tried to take more oxygen and focus on my own work. Probably the basic thing, he said, is that you have to start winning struggles and have fun.
Legendary Juhani Tamminen sometimes woke up his team at a slightly unorthodox time, but modern pilots usually use time-outs in the decisive moments at the end of the match or to give their players a breather.
– Already at the set break there was a lot of anger in the booth. The second set didn’t start very well either, so it was certainly good to take the extra time, Palve said.
– The time-out taken in the middle of the game is a signal that what will happen now. After that, for some reason, they started playing well, he specified.
Who Nyman?

Ilves center’s hits in the second set were similar: kirvesvahti Christian from Heljango viewed from the right side, a loose puck in from a few meters away.
– In the first one Eemeli Finland nicely gave me a puck from the side of the ice. I don’t know if it saw me. He said that he tried to feed someone, Palve said.
– After the second goal, I gave Jani Nymanin to hear that when we have a 3-1 superior attack, you don’t shoot at the back mattress, but can be fed a little. A loose puck happened to hit me, but it could have been built a little better. He has such a good itch that you can almost always shoot, but in that situation, if you could have passed, I would have given it back.
Goal-hungry Nyman has Ilves’ best shot. On Friday, he scored a one-timer that was very important for the match, 4–2.
Palve, Suomi and Nyman have formed Ilves’ strongest chain for several rounds of matches.
– When I made the deal in the summer, Ilves’ sports director Timo Koskela said that the team has a Nyman like this, who has a really hard shot. When the first game of the season was played in Pori and “Jamppa” scored a goal, I asked if I would retrieve the puck. I thought it was the first league goal, Palve laughed.
– Then I heard that he had scored ten goals last season. I knew Nyman by name in advance, but I’m not so Niilo that I would go and look at the statistics.
Another hat
Mika Kylmäniemi / AOP
Palve scored a hat-trick in the final set against an empty Tappara goal in 55:20. Ilves won 5–2.
– There is always a desire to score goals, but I didn’t necessarily take risks. When I saw they were going to take the goalie out, I thought I’d try the third.
The hat trick was the second of the 31-year-old player’s league career. The first came in a TPS shirt in the 2018–19 season in KooKoo’s backpack.
Girl coming
PDO
In Tampere’s local 2023–24, Ilves’ wins are 4–1, so it has already achieved the domination of the city.
– Good feeling. Both parents and wife were watching. The wife is still here before returning to her home country. It’s great to succeed in front of loved ones.
Pal’s American wife Haley Ferguson expecting the couple’s first child. She will give birth in the spring in North America. The couple’s family will grow, if all goes well, with a baby girl.
– Not excited yet. More than that, a little enthusiasm is on.
With Friday’s power night, Palve moved to the pole position of the league’s points exchange with a balance of 16+32=48 power points.
