In the suburbs launched a system for monitoring the fatigue of taxi drivers, the program reports “Vesti-Moscow” (all episodes can be seen on the media platform “Looking”). The project is still at the testing stage. Special sensors will track the state and actions of the person behind the wheel. They will check if the seat belt is fastened and report if the driver begins to lose concentration.
Kamo Grigoryan has been working in a taxi for the fifth year. He says it happens for 8-10 hours behind the wheel. The driver assures that he practically does not violate the rules of the road. Yes, and tries without processing. Now this is monitored by cameras. Kamo has a positive attitude towards the innovation.
“I somehow put a phone to my ear, and she reacted. I think these cameras are needed. A lot of drivers try to work overtime, get tired, and everything is controlled this way,” says taxi driver Kamo Grigoryan.
The behavior of the driver is monitored by two cameras. One is directed to the face, the second to the road. The equipment has already been installed on two dozen cars. The system is being tested in taxis that run around the Moscow region.
“One camera looks at facial expressions and movements of a person’s face, monitors the behavior of eyes, pupils, blinking, yawning and distraction from the roadway to determine driver fatigue, drowsiness and other actions. In the event of an alarming situation, the system signals that something has gone wrong so,” says Dmitry Bespalov, engineer, project manager.
All data is sent to a single dispatch center of the taxi fleet, where the video is systematized and analyzed.
“We hope that with the help of this system we will be able to improve the safety of trips. You can understand how tired the driver is, whether he is fastened or not fastened, smokes, whether he is distracted directly from the road. Well, the system analyzes his driving style in general,” explains Polina Lomonosova , head of the press service of the taxi service.
So far, one taxi fleet is taking part in the experiment. But soon this video control system is going to be introduced in others. First of all, this is a matter of passenger safety.
