Twitter recently announced its change, according to which Twitter users will receive a blue confirmation sign after their username when paying. The fee is 8 dollars, or roughly 7 euros per month. The verification mark indicates that the user account has a real person and verified identity.

The change came into effect on Thursday, April 20. Many public figures such as Justin Bieber, Pope Francis, Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian have lost their blue badge among others.

Some individuals, such as a basketball player LeBron James and author Stephen King have paid for the service as they still have the blue badge. However, King later said on Twitter that he has not paid for his sign.

Twitter used to have about 300,000 accounts with a blue verification mark. For example, public figures, journalists, athletes and other public figures have had blue badges.
