Barbie’s huge success has sparked interest in possible sequels.
BarbieMargot Robbie, who was delighted in the lead role of the movie, says that there are no plans for a sequel to the hit movie, despite its great popularity.
Earning more than 1.4 billion dollars (1.3 billion euros), Barbie became a downright phenomenon after it saw the light of day on the big screen. Despite the limited success, none of the parties involved in the making of the film have committed to a sequel.
– I think we put everything possible into this. We didn’t plan on it being a trilogy or anything. Greta [ohjaaja Greta Gerwig] put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what will happen next, Robbie says the news agency for AP.
Back in June, Robbie said Timein an interview with the magazine that the sequel can take the story forward in many different directions. However, the focus of attention was on the first film.
– I think that’s where you’d get into a trap if you tried to create the first movie while planning the sequels, Robbie told Time.
The story continues after the picture.

The director and screenwriter of Barbie has also been asked about possible sequels, but he has remained silent on the subject. Shortly after the premiere of Barbie, Gerwig stated for the New York Timesthat he had no further plans with Barbie.
However, he later admitted Peoplemagazine that he wouldn’t be against the idea of a sequel, as long as it delved deeper into the Barbie universe instead of focusing on Robbie and the male lead Ryan Gosling’s to the characters.
– It has shades, humor and joy, and naturally that world is really beautiful. I want to go back to Barbieland,” Gerwig told People.
Barbie, which premiered in July, is the first film by a female director to gross more than a billion dollars. Naturally, at the same time, it is also the highest-grossing female-directed film of all time.
The film has been popular not only among audiences but also among critics. In Iltalehti’s evaluation, Barbie received a full five stars.
