The fashion house Chanel dedicates its new autumn and winter collection to its greatest icon: the legendary tweed fabric.
On the last day of Paris Fashion Week, the fashion house Chanel presented its designs for the upcoming autumn/winter season. The walls of the temporary exhibition building Grand Palais Éphémère were covered in dark tweed fabric from top to bottom on Tuesday morning, setting the tone of the collection. Fashion Week began in the French fashion metropolis on February 28 this year.
The parade opened with a pink tweed coat, under which the model wore purple wool stockings and flat, pointed slingback sandals. This was followed by a parade of countless variations of this legendary Chanel fabric: classic suits could be seen, blazers in different lengths, short sheath dresses, Bermuda pants and cardigans.
“Dedicating the entire collection to tweed is a tribute,” Creative Director Virginie Viard explained in the show notes. Legendary fashion designer Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel discovered and made this robust, traditionally two-tone woven fabric on a trip to Scotland in the 1920s then to the landmark of the house, whose name is one of the big ones in the international luxury and fashion world.
The thigh-high fishing boots and simple rubber boots, with which Viard contrasted the mostly very ladylike looks, were particularly striking in the collection. There was no statement on the war in Ukraine on this show either. Very few fashion houses, including Balenciaga and Stella McCartney, used Paris Fashion Week to draw attention to current events and thus take a stand. (dpa)
