A Russian ice hockey player died in the war

The ex-player was 35 years old when he died.

Russian ice hockey player Artyom Gvozdik has died in the war between Russia and Ukraine at the age of 35, reports Venäläinen News.ru. The Russian Ministry of Defense has not commented on the matter, according to the news website.

Gvozdik’s former team HC Slavutich published a statement about the player’s death on VK, a popular social media platform in Eastern Europe and Russia.

The release stated that Gvozdik served in the Air Force. He has also played in the Russian Air Force team during his career. Gvozdik played at his best in Russia’s second highest league level in the VHL as a goalkeeper.

He started his professional career at the Russia3 level in the 2006–2007 season. Gvozdik played ice hockey for ten seasons, and his last recorded game is from the 2016-2017 season.
